Welcome to the official Kansas Regents Network
and TELENET 2 Web Page
Since 1970 is KRN has been connecting people via technology for university
courses, training sessions, programs, statewide staff conferences,
extension information sessions, etc. Originally, it linked two sites
but quickly grew to be a statewide educational network. Currently,
the Network consists of two systems:
1) TELENET 2, introduced in 1996, is a videoconference network with 25 established class/meeting
rooms throughout Kansas.
2) TeleBridge is a telephone conferencing system.
TELENET 2 operates via Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN)
lines using POLYCOM & PictureTel desktop videoconferencing units at
25 (as of Fall '04) established sites in Kansas including 13 community
colleges, eight Regent's institutions, and four community locations.
Other sites with compatible equipment can be added. Current bridging
capacity links up to 20 sites and allows for multiple simultaneous
conferences.
Currently, TELENET 2 offers credit courses from Kansas
State University and others as scheduled. To date, approximately
6,600 students attended class via TELENET 2. The Kansas Law Enforcement
Training Center (KLETC),
an original partner in TELENET 2, offers monthly training programs
via the network reaching thousands of law enforcement officers state-wide
with over 94 programs and 186 sessions through November 2004.
Other programming is quite varied ranging from training sessions to administrative
meetings to job interviews.
The Kansas Regents Network continues to offer efficient and cost effective audio and
video conferencing to a variety of clients. In a typical year, over 100 different
agencies or individuals use the video and audio conferencing services
offered by the KRN with academic credit courses and at least
50 other programs offered via videoconferencing and approximately 900
audio conferences with 4,500 port hours. Many of these are repeat
customers who used the network on a reoccurring basis.
